I woke up to the bright sun, heart filled with gratitude for being happy and healthy. Florida’s Covid-19 cases are growing like bull market stock prices, reaching higher and higher levels. So being healthy is definitely something to be grateful for.

Then the morning became challenging –

First, my husband and I had an age-old argument on whether to focus on negative human behavior or focus on what we wanted to achieve in life. As always, we both got bitter. Dr. Wayne Dyer said, “If you have a choice between being right and being kind, choose kind.” Even with this quote swirling in my mind, I still insisted on proving that he was wrong.

Second, a salesperson called from a vanity publishing house. I don’t like unsolicited sales calls, but I answered the call mistakenly, thinking it was from media. The pushing and hard selling really got on my nerves. I argued some more, of course in vain. Again, I didn’t choose to be kind.

Third, my teenage son went straight to his computer and started his day with his social media and game statistics. I knew he would be there for several hours until he could play some outdoor sports. Despite daily lectures on how to harness his youth to learn, grow, and contribute more to the world, he is not intrinsically motivated. The “matrix” magnetizes him more than anything else. It triggered me for the third time in the morning.

I felt the energy drain from my body with each negative experience. I knew I had to process them so they would go away. Then I received a miracle message from Mike Dooley’s “A Note from the Universe.” It went like this:

“It isn’t easy at first, Aileen, but one of the greatest gifts you could ever give someone who makes your heart soar is the freedom to learn their own lessons, at their own pace.

Even trickier is discovering that one of the greatest gifts you could ever give someone who gets on your nerves is the freedom to learn their own lessons, at their own pace.

And perhaps most challenging of all is understanding that one of the greatest gifts you could ever give yourself is the realization that your heart soaring and your nerves fraying have never been dependent upon other people and their lessons.”

These words were like gentle wind that dispersed the dark clouds I stationed above my head. When the clouds moved away, I suddenly felt lighter. Energy came back to my body.

I gently said goodbye to the resentment and need to control.

We can’t live in the light all the time, but we can bounce back faster.
